L’Équipe reveals the top salaries of the footballers of the Spanish League, with two substitutes.
L’Équipe today unveiled lists of the highest-paid players and coaches. He has divided them by European leagues. And in the section of the Spanish League, there are several surprises. Gerard Piqué is the leader, with the necessary amount of 2.33 million euros gross per month. His status as the highest-paid footballer in La Liga is surprising, as defenders tend to pay less than forwards. But it is, at the same time, relatively understandable, given his hierarchy in one of the two most important teams in the championship. What is most striking are the soccer players who succeed him in the ranking.
Bale and Hazard, the seconds
And it is that these are nothing less than Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard. Both Real Madrid players earn 2.27 million gross monthly from Madrid. It is worth remembering their status as substitutes. The case of the Welshman hurts. And it is that this season he has only played five games out of a possible 42, having scored only one goal and without having distributed any assistance. They are abysmal numbers, which aggravate considering the money his club spends on him. Madrid made him this contract in 2016 when he did shine in the white team. He finishes it this year, and everything indicates that he will not renew.
For his part, although the Belgian has played many more, the money he charges is still crazy considering his performance. Hazard has played 22 of the 42 possible games, with one goal and one assist. They are inferior figures far from those of Hazard, who shone at Chelsea and in the 2018 World Cup with his team. For example, in his last season with the London team, 2018/2019, he played 52 games, scored 21 goals, and made 17 assists. This, and his past performance, caught the attention of Florentino Pérez’s management, who offered him a multimillion-dollar contract that is now not justified in any way.
Busquets, the fourth
The next ones on the list are understandable again. After Piqué, Hazard and Bale is Sergio Busquets in the fourth position. The Barça captain receives 1.91 million euros gross per month. A respectable job, taking into account the excellent performance that the Catalan has offered throughout his career and, in turn, his current one.
Alaba and Griezmann, the fifth
And finally, in the fifth position, two players who play in Madrid close the ranking: David Alaba, dressed in white, and the mattress player Antoine Griezmann. Both earn 1.88 million euros gross per month. In the case of the Austrian player, it expects that he was the European champion almost two years ago with Bayern, and his incredible performance so far has allowed Madrid to lead the standings. The case of the Frenchman is probably more debatable, although this season, he is going from more minor to more and does not stop having the status of world champion.
Noted Absences
The lack of meritocracy in this ranking is striking. For example, Hazard and Bale earn more than Karim Benzema, Luka Modrić, Toni Kroos, Vinicius Jr., Thibaut Courtois, or David Alaba.
